Bindery - Gate Folds
When planning a gatefold, ask your bindery what the gap will be between gates ... On many jobs a 1/ 16" gap or less is possible.
Technically Speaking...
TIP: Running gatefold pieces 2- and 3-up can cause problems.
WHY: Most gatefolds require loosened folder rollers. The resulting soft-folded product can prevent slitter shafts from getting a proper grip and keeping the slitting square.
TIP: Gatefolds at right angles to initial fold(s) will wrinkle.
WHY: Paper has a third dimension - thickness. Designs that fold same-size panels into themselves will wrinkle the inside panel. Unfortunately, we're dealing with laws of physics here.
